I recently started my second summer of working as a housekeeper for a local hotel for minimum wage, and started wondering why jobs with a great amount of manual labor seem to always have the lowest pay.
The lower the education required to do a job, the harder the work.
I once had a job delivering meat to grocery stores. It was cows cut into 4 pieces. Each piece weighed 120-250 pounds. You had to carry the stickey, greasy, BLEEDING side of beef with bones cutting into you, on your shoulder into the back door, of which was usually closed and then stand and wait until someone finally told you where to lay, or hook, the meat onto. I went back to school, then college at night, 1 class per semester, and graduated 9 years later! Now I work in an office with a view.

How do I become a housekeeper?
I want to work as a housekeeper part maybe full time during the week, including general houskeeping, cleaning, shopping, washing, ironing etc. How do I go about this when I have no previous references in this line of work as I have worked in an office for 9 years and want a change. What should I expect working as a housekeeper?
I will be starting as a housekeeper at a fairly large resort and am wondering what jobs I'll have, any tips or advice and just what to expect….I have worked and am also currently working as a waitress at another large resort so I just am wondering….. thanks for the help
to work alot, and deal with other peoples belongings, expect to not steal things that you se lying aroun that you might want, and of course, don't try to be the type to not pick up dirty laundry, it will happen that yo will run across some nasty things if the peopole are nasty.

I am too young to be a CNA, and our school does not have a HOSA. I know that I will be cleaning up bodily fluids as well, but, hey maybe it will make me appreciate what I have later on in life.

sure it will help! Just putting yourself in that enviorment will be helpful. You might be surprised at how much you learn. You will be doing mostly cleaning and maybe laundry depending on the home, so your interaction with the pt. will be limited but in that time you can make a difference. The other option maybe to volunteer a lot of places take volunteers to help with recreation or passing lines and even snacks.
The other suggestion I have is to shadow a nurse. You really just walk around with them all day to see what they do. You should try to shadow nurses in different places like one in a nursing home , and a few in the hospital try getting to go to different units of the hospital to see different thing.
